The UBC Faculty Pension Plan (FPP) is a defined contribution pension plan. This means that your retirement income is not pre-determined – it is based on your account’s assets at the time you retire. During your working years, the key is to grow your account balance as much as possible to help you achieve your retirement goals.
All UBC FPP members are responsible for deciding how to invest their assets. The way you invest your assets today will significantly impact the amount of money you ultimately accumulate for the future. Your investment strategy will depend on your personal situation, including your risk tolerance, access to other savings, and your retirement timeline.
UBC FPP members are also responsible for educating themselves about how their pension plan works, their asset amounts, their investment options, and how to best utilize the Plan’s investment tools and resources. We highly recommend that you:
- Read the My Money @ Work Guide and the Retirement Guide.
- Review the UBC FPP website, in particular the Overview, Investment Education, Investment Options and Managing your Investments pages.
- Review your quarterly account statements available on mysunlife.ca/ubcfpp. Use the Online Roadmap to help you navigate your member account.
- Learn about the financial calculators available to assist you with your financial and retirement planning.
